What is brocade fabric?

Brocade is a richly decorative shuttle-woven fabrics, often made in colored silks and with or without gold 7 silver threads. The name, related to the same root as the word "broccoli", comes from Italian broccato meaning "embossed cloth". 

History behind it:

During the mughal period,weaving industry of brocade fabrics reached its peak. In the court of Emperor Akbar, there was many Persian artisans & this persian pattern & motif of the fabric is influenced by them. In Vedic literature,the name of this fabric has been mentioned too.Brocade fabric has been preferred by Britishers also but it is a heavy fabric so they have started using brocade textile on curtains.

The making of Brocade fabric:

Brocade is typically woven on a draw loom. The technique which is used is a supplementary weft technique where the brocade is produced by supplementary weft in addition to standard weft which holds the warp threads together.

                                              

Maintenance

Do not put brocade garments in dryer as it may pull & crush the fabric.It is suggested to keep away the fabric from direct sunlight. Ideally all brocade fabric based clothes should go for dry clean only.
